I'm working on my first full-length screenplay. This is the first piece I've written that will actually make it to full-length. Normally my plays just happen to wrap up somewhere between a half hour and an hour, but I'm on page 97!!! Hooray!
Any other traitors in the house?
Now, I hate making outlines, because I think they suck all the fun out of the process. But I find myself at the climax, and I'm very nervous about the ending. So nervous that I couldn't write for about six months. I'm back in the saddle now, though.
Does anyone know of a good forum for screenwriting? I know this is a playwriting forum, but would anyone be opposed to a "screenwriting as a second language" thread?

t-girl, i'd welcome it. last year, i wrote and ended up directing and producing a television pilot i came up with. (there's even some interest out there from a potential buyer!!!)
anyway, screenwriting (both big and small) may be the red-headed step-child of playwriting, but i'd welcome the chance to bang it about.
so count me in.

| wrote screenplays for years. finally gave up. was close though. the company that made independence day called me and told me how they liked my sci-fi comedy, but it wasn't for them. spoke to penny marshall's prod-team. they liked my pitch. sent scripts (via agent) to jennifer connelly, alicia silverstone and a bunch of others. and even got a conf. call with the exec of two small studios who really liked two separate scripts and had to mull them over before committing. but of course, it's so hard to get anything past development. but if you have a script that you really really love, go for it. and then you have to write another. cause, it's very likely, someone will read your script, like it, but ask you if you have anything else. i guess the grass is always greener...

Leon,
You're right. I once wrote a screenplay that got pretty far along but petered out. Next thing I knew, the production team went with something else that was not exactly like my idea, but similar enough for me to know my time had come and gone. I missed the boat. I've heard it said the muses will only give you a bolt of brilliance at a time and it's up to you to maximize that bolt or it will go away or go to someone else.

| take a look at the scripts that won contests. first place out of 5000 screenplays. look five years later. they're still not made into movies. but the writers get assignments to write other scripts. i never understood that.

Why is screenwriting the red-headed stepchild? I am dabbling. I co-wrote a sitcom earlier this year. You still need a good story or funny jokes to write a good one, so why the format issue?
Just curious.

Very interesting Screen writing opportunity.......
http://www.redplanetpictures.co.uk/prize/prize.html
Makes a nice change that there arn't any abstract conditions to meet - or fees to pay!
