Many of you know I'm constantly trying to come up with ways to use the internet to further my career as a playwright. Specifically, I'm trying to use it as a way to learn and to get my work exposed to new people.
I'm trying to make something that doesn't exist yet with the Online Reading Circle for Playwrights and it suffering from the problem of a new technology. Who knows if it will catch on in the long run.
BUT...I've come up with something NEW!
I've found a couple theatrical podcasts, on itunes and the like. Some that do interviews and others that do readings of new and established plays. Somehow this idea came to me to move the Online Reading Circle for Playwrights to Skype in order to make a podcast of one of my plays. Skype is a internet based phone software that you can use to do free conference calls.
In my research for Skype, I stumbled across this forum called Voice Acting Club (http://voiceacting.proboards62.com/index.c.cgi). The forum is mostly used by amateur voice actors who want to do voiceovers for anime and flash animation. But the forum is open to writers posting auditions for podcasts and the like.
So…I'm working on my very first podcast reading of one of my plays! Through the forum I got the actors cast in about a week and I've given them two weeks to email me their files. I will let you all know how the final product comes out.
It's a very exciting prospect. Another way to get my writing out into the world!
