SceneShop, a casual theatrical showcase in Fort Worth, Texas, is seeking election/politics-related short pieces (scenes, monologues) for production in a one-night performance scheduled for Saturday, October 25. What we're after is a lively, fast-paced collage of comedy, satire and music, and we'd love for you to a be a part. We've gotten some great pieces over the years from this readers of this site.
In specific, we need:
2 to 3 short pieces, no more than 15 minutes in length, that would lend themselves to a Readers Theatre-style presentation. Casts can number up to 5 or 6 (but monologues are welcome), with comic takes on the Republicans, the Democrats and/or the electoral process. I repeat, we will make fun of both parties!
2 to 3 "quickie" pieces of two minutes or less, such as Top Ten Lists, Questions We Wish We Could Ask Candidate X, etc. These can be fun, try writing one!
4 to 5 "new lyrics" to recognizable melodies, al la Mark Russell. We will have singers and a band in the show, so full-out performances are no problem. (if you have clever ideas about the performance- "try a calypso beat," "background singers like the Pips"- please include these.)
Because these need to be topical and the Dems' convention is so late, we're setting a final deadline of September 15, but if you wish to skewer the Dems' interminable primary process or McCain's age (just ideas), don't hesitate to get working and send 'em on. Writers will be given full credit in press and programs and, if possible, DVDs of final show.
