We don't care how old you are, or how often your play was produced. You do not have to be previously published or have had a work done by an Equity company. However, you do need a quality script! And we'll carefully consider it for publication. So whether you've been writing all your life or just getting started, send us your plays. We are looking primarily for full-length comedies and dramas that we will market to SPT and Community theaters. However, we will also publish plays for High Schools and young adults (college/university) and for children's theater and youth. Previously produced/published playwrights submit to Rebecca Ryland, editor/literary manager, Heartland Plays, Inc. at playsnow@heartlandplays.com. Unpublished/unproduced please submit a synopsis and short bio to the same address. We look forward to hearing from you.

Uh-oh... Heartland is requesting a reader's fee" with each submission a no-no for this forum. On their site they write:
"Submission must include a reader’s fee of $10 per one act or monologue collection, or $20 per full-length play, musical, short-play or scene collection. This minimal fee assures you a cover-to-cover reading of the material, and a one page critique of the work by return e-mail."

Actually, not true. After receiving much criticism, some reasonable, others almost vicious, we moved to an optional reader's fee for those who wanted a guaranteed cover to cover reading to dropping the concept entirely. Please give us a few days to make the changes on the website, after all it is a holiday! We apologize to any of you who were offended by something that I, as a playwright, thought was a good idea. As an editor, I do not want to do anything that stops a playwright from submitting work to us. We are new, but we believe in building a quality catalog that we can successfully market to theaters. Please submit your plays directly to me at playsnow@heartlandplays.com. I prefer Word documents. Thanks!
