Cheers all,
I've been lurking on this board for around a month now and loving what it is you all do here and the way you support each other's work. I love to write plays, and I sense the passion you all have for it as well. I'm thrilled to be onboard. I posted a play I've been grappling with under the "Critique My Play" section of the board. The play is called "Canaries Down a Mineshaft." I apologize that it's so long and that may be an obvious area to critique. I hope a few of you will get through it, so I might hear some feedback and be properly initiated into your gang. I look forward to playing the role of audience, reader, and advice-giver on this board. A great thing you got going here. Kudos to the moderators for scrupulously searching out dozens of opportunities to submit work. I've been all over the web looking for this stuff and haven't found a place yet that lists so many in an updated fashion, not to mention offering an outlet for feedback and revision like what you all got going here. As you can tell, I excited I stumbled upon this and will shut up.
Be Easy,
Steamboat

Welcome aboard, Steamboat!
You seem typical to many of us. We were all lurkers at one time. Some longer than other. Think I was about a year or so.
You are right about shorter pieces being easier, but on occasion someone, myself included will read a longer piece.
So, if we read ten pages or so of your script and comment, don't be disappointed if we only have time to comment on the beginning.
Billy Wilder once said, with reference to a screenplay, "if you're having trouble with the third act, you probably need to work on the first act."
Probably no different with a play or novel.
Again, welcome aboard.
best,

Welcome, Steamboat.
There seems to be a trend lately with lurkers becoming members. This is great. Make yourself at home.
Laughter, bravos and fabulous lighting,
Edd

Welcome, Steamboat.
As IMR said, it's sometimes very difficult to read long pieces. I'll read ten pages, but usually not more. I'll look at yours, when I come up for air.
Nice to have you.

I am sorry the first piece I submitted was long. I shoulda had the sense to realize that most folks don't have time to read a play as long as the one I posted. I still hope, though, some committed souls will get through it and add comments. In teh future I will bear in mind length and perhaps submit only the portions of longer plays that I think need the most work. That seems to be the trend. Anyhow, In medias res, Edd, and Paddy, thanks for the warm welcome.

Hi Steamboat,
Yeah, isn't this a great site? I will try to read some of your play and every play in the critique section when I get there. Actually I am curiouos to se how you handled a long play.
