WARNING

When a theatre is asking for a full-length play that has not been previously produced and does not state up front that they are providing anything to the playwright other than the privilege of having your play produced on their stage, think twice.  Remember that once you have your play produced it is no longer eligible for contests and theatres looking for original, unproduced work that may pay substantially.  Remember, when it comes to play production, you're only a virgin once.

Any submission opportunity that calls for a fee from our members is considerad an ad and we do not post ads of any type in this forum.  Should you run across any opp requesting a fee, please let me know and I will remove it immediately.

* * * * * * * * * *

Here's a tip for you.  Go through the old opps going back to last year and earlier this year.  Chances are many of those theatres are running the same deadlines this year.  Check their websites or email them to see if they are.

· Chosen plays will be announced on May 1, 2008.

· The festival runs Fall 2008.

· PLEASE READ ALL GUIDELINES & INFORMATION THOROUGHLY.

REQUIREMENTS & GUIDELINES FOR PLAYWRIGHTS

Each qualifying submission is thoroughly reviewed. Please do us the same courtesy by thoroughly reviewing and following all submission guidelines. Thank you!

Plays submitted outside the specified dates and/or guidelines WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

· We are primarily looking for new short plays by female writers, but we do consider submissions by male writers that explore complex female characters and perspectives and are appropriate for a celebration of female voices. Please don’t put a woman’s name on your play. It WON’T help you.

· Submissions for EstroGenius 2008 are accepted by mail or in person between January 15 and March 15, 2008. No electronic submissions are accepted.  Submissions must be postmarked by March 15, 2008.

· Please number the pages of your script, and include a character breakdown.

· Submissions must be accompanied by a completed cover sheet.  (See attached).  Submissions received without the cover sheet will not be considered.

· Maximum length is 20 minutes. Preferred length is 10-15 minutes.

· There are no stipulations on content or subject matter. Material need not be women’s issues oriented. We’re interested in all that women are writing about.

· We find that true short plays work best with a definitive beginning, middle and end.  Selections cut from full length plays work less well in our experience.
· You may submit ONLY one play (so, pick your favorite!) If you submit more than one play, one will be chosen at random to be read, and the OTHERS WILL BE DISCARDED.
· Playwrights must be open and willing to work on possible re-writes and/or cuts.  IF your play is chosen and it is running longer than 20 minutes, you MUST cut. NO EXCEPTIONS!
· All plays should require only simple production values (sets, lights and costumes). manhattantheatresource has an elegant, intimate theatre. Storage and wing space is extremely limited.  If it can’t be done with a some imagination , a bench, a table, a few chairs and some imagination, then please don’t submit it!

· All short plays must have a minimum of two characters.  If you have a one-woman show, please look at the guidelines for our Sola Voce miniature festival of solo shows.

· No attached casts or directors. (You may refer actors and directors for audition/interview.)
 · To have your play returned, it must be accompanied by a manuscript size Self Addressed Stamped Envelope with appropriate postage. If there is no manuscript size SASE, the play will not be returned.

· A SAS Post Card should be included if you want acknowledgment of arrival.
