Stockyards Theatre Project Announces Playwriting Contest
WHAT: Stockyards Theatre Project announces the Stockyards Women's Histories Contest, for playwrights!
The Chicago stockyards are a famous, even infamous, part of Chicago history. But did you know that nearly half of the stockyards' workforce was women? We at Stockyards Theatre Project have a particular affection for those women, from whom we derived our name. We long to give voice to their stories.
We are seeking one act plays about the women who worked in the Chicago stockyards. Winners will have their plays produced in March 2010 (Women's History Month). Fifty plays will compete in a public reading, based on a 5-page selection of the author's choosing. Ten will be chosen based on audience responses. These Top Ten will receive a full staged reading in Fall 2009. The FOUR WINNERS will be produced in March 2010.
The plays should be no longer than 20 minutes with a maximum of 6 characters. They can be any style the author would like so long as the theme is women in the stockyards. Please mail submissions. Full instructions for the contest are listed on our website - http://www.stockyardstheatreproject.org
