HEARTLAND COMPANY, "ONE SHOE"
Deadline: 2-1-2007]
Playwriting Competition to Collect Original Short Plays for 10-Minute Play Festival
One shoe, new shoe, red shoe, blue shoe... Just one. All by itself, lying there. We've all seen this mysterious phenomenon. But how did that lone shoe get there? Was it pitched out of a car by a cranky child or dropped from the sky by aliens? Did it fall off a speeding bicyclist or a bumpy moving van? And what does it mean?

Maybe it's a coded message left by a spy. Or a plea for help from a kleptomaniac. Or maybe sometimes a shoe is just a shoe.

Whatever the origin, whatever the significance, it's up to you. Pick a shoe, any shoe, from a six-inch stiletto heel to a tiny red sneaker, and write a ten-minute play about it. Start or end your play with the shoe you choose, and you're off. Where you go from there is up to you and your shoe.

Heartland Theatre Company is seeking eight short original plays to be considered for production In June of 2007 for an annual play festival. Last year’s plays focused on the theme "20 Years." This year, the theme is the One Shoe phenomenon. The competition is open to all playwrights wishing to participate. Eight plays will be selected and performed from among all the submissions.

Submission Guidelines posted at:

The Intentional Theatre is now accepting submissions for the 2007 Original One-Act Competition.

DEADLINE: 2/15/07

Posted 1/1/07

Plays in length from 45 to 60 minutes chosen will receive a fully-staged (ie. off-book, not script-in-hand) presentation in 2007. Submissions must be received by February 15th or so. There is no entry fee. For complete information and submission guidelines, visit http://intentionaltheatre.com and follow the "submit here" link on the home page for the 2007 Original One-Act Competition.

Following in the tradition of a "bare-boned" presentation, production qualities will be minimized to allow focus on characterization and story development.

DISCLAIMER: Despite the inclusion of the word “competition” in the title of this artistic endeavor, there is in fact no actual competition beyond the selection of a play for our presentation. There is no award offered, monetary or otherwise, except the dubious distinction of having been considered, and possibly chosen for, production by The Intentional Theatre.
