I met a very interesting playwright at a blues party two weeks ago. She said her most produced play takes place inside a suit bag hanging in the back of a limosine.
Wow. I've never written a play like that, not even close, but...I thought, what a good exercise.
So look around your room. Find a container...perhaps, an unlikely container. Look inside, and make characters with the things inside.
Write a page or two...a scene, a monologue...something.
Sometimes...it's just nice to eat somewhere else, even though you could go to your favourite restaurant.

It's the same with "bigger" stories, say movies. I say "Columbus Day" the other night and it's essentially a story that takes place in the park. The park is the container.
