RETURN TO SENDER -- ShirleyK
VICTOR: No, you cannot arrest me and my son. Not now. Please. Tomorrow is Christmas.
CHAD: Just doing my job. When he gets home I gotta take you both in. He's your kid and you're illegal. I've got no choice.
VICTOR: You know how many years it takes to become legal? Six to nineteen.
CHAD: Just get a lawyer. Work it out.
VICTOR: I have tried. They want money and they have many cases.
CHAD: Sorry, but you shoulda thought of that before you jumped the fence. Where's your wife?
VICTOR: Maria died last year. Why do you arrest me? I am not in trouble with the law. I work hard as a laborer, I learn English, I send my son to school. If I go back I have no chance. There is no work.
CHAD: Look, I don't make the rules. Okay?
VICTOR: So we must go back, Felipe and I? On this day of all days?
CHAD: You got it.
VICTOR: Felipe has never been to Mexico. He speaks English, he plays baseball.
CHAD: Yeah? What position?
VICTOR: Shortstop. He is good. Someday he may play baseball for a living.
CHAD: Well then, your kid's got it made. All he's gotta to do is play even better and he gets signed by the Majors. That'll be his ticket back here. Oh, before I forget, Feliz Navidad. That's how you folks say Merry Christmas -- right?

Oh. This is sad, Shirley. Sad and kind of true.
Nicely done!

Thanks, Paddy. Unfortunately it's very true here in California where immigration rules are often not interpreted correctly and agents seem to be overzealous about returning people.

What a country we live in. So many of us preach Humanity, yet so many show so very little. There are better days on the horizon where consciousness is on the rise. This was very nice, Shirley. Thank you.

Thanks, Edd. I agree, we must not stop hoping and trying to make things better.

I can't say I like it, but it is well done, and necessary. Is this the type of material Hunger Artsts and Gods, Monsters and The Other are looking for? (Both ten-minute play festivals are listed in the Noticeboard, both have March deadlines.) Thank you, ShirleyK!

I have no idea. I probably won't send it. I wrote this earlier and will keep working on it until it becomes longer and more of a play. Mostly I just wanted to participate in the one page challenge.
Thanks so much for all the great opportunities you've been posting, Mary Alice.
They are much appreciated!
