Basso, you actually may be onto something. Play with it for awhile. I know it's written for young actors who really do talk that way, but if you want it performed by young actors you might want to reconsider. HOWEVER, I do not in any way suggest you edit yourself because I say so. But, think about it. Apathy is epidemic. A great subject and you attack it with wonderful metaphore. ~Edd

What happens when these two actually talk about sex? How would this vocabulary work, were they to acknowledge their own emotions? Hmmm?

Edd, you are too kind, and I see, always the gentleman. The above was but the equivalent of doodling, except on the computer. Perhaps that isn't a good admission. :0 If it takes me off the cutting-edge of things I recant the statement about "doodling." ;)
Mary Alice, yes, how to proceed if a female was introduced, and the two dollards found that their biology was creating a storm greater than the inertia of their upbringings? I think for a time, anyway, they may find themselves uttering utterances that were unfamiliar, and rising above their day to day selves. Although, if conversations on my daughter's msn account are illustrative of anything, one couldn't be faulted if they didn't think so.

PS: If my use of smilies is annoying and makes me seem frivolous, someone must let me know, immediately!

What if a female wasn't introduced, they still had emotions and this vocabulary?

I always think there is a terrible energy in being bored, but with apathy there is almost none. I speak from experience, because at one time I was so lethargic that all I could was watch videos. I termed myself appropriately a vidiot. Luckily, with the advent of dvd's I am no longer so apathetic, because I haven't come up with an appropriate moniker. So, there is emotion on the level of, "Oh, there's the sun coming up," "hey, there's a girl," "look, dirt," but each thing is given the same weight, because of their lack of an emotional connection. Their vocabulary would remain the same, because the power of their impassivity would dull each experience, so as to make them alike. A terrible state, to be sure. These boys might very well engage in fraternizing with girls, and boinking too, but, unfortunately, unless the intensity of the experience was mind altering they would remain emotional eunuchs. In a longer play, of course, something dramatic, or catastrophic, would happen, and then one, or both boys would awaken. Perhaps one of the boys might be killed. He did leave his shoe untied after all, and an untimely trip into the conveniently placed canal by the mall, might just do the trick.
