DOWN AT THE CORNER
By Shirley K
HAMLET is working on his costume as PHIL arrives.
PHIL: Hi. We’re doing Street Hamlet tonight -- right? I‘m here to warm up the audience by leading the sing-a-long.
HAMLET: No, varlet. I do the sing-a-long or I don’t do Hamlet. Period.
(KING CLAUDIUS arrives.)
KING CLAUDIUS: Hamlet, how is it that the clouds still hang on you? I pray you throw to earth this unprevailing woe and think of me as a father.
PHIL: What a cool guy! Is he actually your father in this play?
HAMLET: He killed my father, you dolt, so now I must dispatch him before we may enjoy Happy Hour.
PHIL: Happy hour? Two drinks for the price of one? I could get behind that.
KING CLAUDIUS: Hamlet, attempt my murder and others will perish. Their blood will be on your hands.
PHIL: Okay, people, let’s rethink this.
KING CLAUDIUS: Play out the play, ere I grow discontent and abandon this scene for clams on the half shell.
HAMLET: Clams, you say? On the half shell? Tell me, O Claudius, where might we find these wondrous crustaceans?
HAMLET: Clams, you say? On the half shell? Tell me, O Claudius, where might we find these wondrous crustaceans?
KING: Where, you ask? Why, down at the corner. Follow me, good fellows!

Thanks, Paddy. As I posted elsewhere, if you want these characters as leaders I would be glad to write other short plays to move the audience from one site to the next.
Actually, Shirley, this isn't for Asphalt Jungle Shorts, but another project entirely, so I don't need lead around pieces...I need some that are almost like extensions of the play, which I've been commissioned to write, and some other very short shorts....no necessarily connected.
Oh, Mary Alice...how did you know I'd be contacting you. I'm almost positive this will work, but still haven't read the scripts.... It still has the distinction of being our shortest play...and as soon as they are re-formatted, we'll have a video...because I remember we had no pictures.
