Hello all,
as some know, I wrote a play based on the music of Meatloaf. I tried to work out a deal for the music but they wouldn't budge. So after pushing it aside, I finally considered the thought of re-working the show.
It is complete, and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in trying to produce a "Meatloafish" sound to my play.
I play guitar and have for about 8 years now but I'm more of a blues player and to construct a progressive rock ballad is sorta out of my league. A skilled pianist would be HUGE.
If anyone is interested- I could email you my script.
Happy New Year

Jim Steinman is the guy, not Meatloaf, though I'm sure you discovered that in your pursuit of rights. And Steinman was prolly hesitant sicne he has used a good portion of his work for the Dance of the Vampires or whatever it was called that hit staged recently.

Now to your request for help...if you can play guitar, you know basic chord structure. Why not pound out the melodies and lyrics (since you've already got the script done) and then find a composer-for-hire to handle whatever arrangements might be needed?

Just a suggestion.

I have to admit I prefer to do everything myself when it comes to creating a piece, so for me the thought of having someone else poke around with adding music to my work would drive me insane.

Sirc,

Thanks for the reply! You are right, many of the songs I had used Steinmen owned the copyright to. I found the company that held the rights and emailed them. Then I found out Mr. Steinmen was unwilling to give them up to me. (Being a musician, and my situation, I can understand his decision)

I haven't heard of the Dance of Vampires yet... I'm gonna have to look that up.

You are correct though, I do know the chord progressions and I have started writing some stuff music and lyrics since I realized I would want a big part in the process.

Thanks for the input!

Just for a little heads up.  The music for the American version 'Dance of the Vampires' was never recorded and is not in print.  The German version 'tanz der vampir' is available and rather good.
