I am a writer in the Washington DC area looking for an actor/director to team up with for the 2012 Fringe Festival and hopefully beyond.
My latest work is 88 monologues entitled the Canaanite Gospel or the Gospel According to Simon Kananaios; a Meditation on Empire.
I am looking for an actor/director to perform a one man show around 8 or so of the monologues that make up the Canaanite Gospel.
The Canaanite Gospel is not just culturally transgressive but intellectually transgressive as well, a certain challenge for any audience as well as actor on any number of levels.
The language is a highly allusive and idiomatically energized Shakesperean Rag done up in an East End cockney using historical and international slang as well as a unique, highly animate syntax.
The monologues take place around Holy Week/Passover 33 A.D. and are designed as an erudite, profane and vulgar send up of Christianity and a vocal attack on Western Imperialism through its portrayal of the brutality of the Roman occupation of Syriaca.
The monologues are spoken by a number of New Testament and historical figures as well as some fictional characters. They veer from humor and parody to tragicomic to tragic. They are relentlessly entertaining as well as challenging.
I prefer to send samples upon request. However, several visual as well as sound only performances by the author as well 40 'early' versions of the monologues can be seen/heard/read at

as part of FlashPoint Magazine

of which I am a founding editor. (Please note these or not final versions especially the 40 written texts. Final versions upon request.)
A copyrighted edition of all 88 monologues is currently in production.
