DAY 11: (1/25/08) and I am sending The Moon Away to the opp below.  Note that if you send more than one script there is a fee, but none for the first script.  The Moon Away is a full-length set in 1985 and based on an actual incident. This is, to my mind, my best play and I’d be honored if you chose to read it.  It can be read in its entirety on my website.

AN HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE: In the mid-1980s hysteria swept the country.  People in disproportionate numbers were using children to add fuel to what had become mass-hysteria to destroy the lives of others.  Prosecutors and social workers coerced children to make false accusations of sexual molestation and satanic rituals involving the sacrificing of cats, dogs, rabbits and other small animals.

Day care workers, ex-marital partners and homosexuals became targets for shocking charges of rape, devil worshipping sodomites, etc.  These were high profile cases that daily made the front pages of newspapers and the endless reports on evening TV.  Parents wore buttons that warned “Believe the Children.”  “Listen to the children” and “children don’t lie” became the mantra of the day.  Every adult was at risk.  The mere accusation kept men and women imprisoned without bail.  Jobs were lost, marriages wrecked, lives destroyed from unsubstantiated accusations.  Innocent individuals spent years in prison without ever having committed a crime.  All the high-profile defendants, after months and years of hellish pain, were found not guilty.  The number of children who would eventually recant was an alarming high percent when compared to accusations made.

What began this hysteria is anybody’s guess, but it grew like wildfire making its way into every city, town and hamlet—eventually making its way into Hobbs, New Mexico.  The population of Hobbs was around thirty-five thousand souls at that time.  Its only newspaper ran a front page story questioning the demonic significance of the Arm and Hammer logo.  Hobbs, New Mexico was ripe to become the epicenter for the perfect storm.

It is against this backdrop The Moon Away is set. ~ECW

FAUST
1. Judith Shakespeare Company
2. Millbrook Playhouse in Mill Hall PA

REUNION
1. The Arts Center in Carrboro NC

Reunion is a short play (yes, I actually have one I figured is worth shuffling around!).

I was pretty busy today and haven't had a chance to submit as many as I'd like. Hopefully I can get back to it in full force tomorrow.

Getting some responses that are very good. I'll be sure to post if anything solid should present itself.

DAY 12 and 13: (1/26 and 1/27/08)

The Space:  Our main stage is a 300-seat theatre with basic light and sound capabilities.

Still day 13 and tempting fate I've sent a hard copy of my full length play to the Druid Theatre in Galway.  I've been lucky enough to visit the Druids in Galway  and  temble at the thought of sending them something but their web site http://www.druidtheatre.com has a generous offer to read unsolicited scripts.

Young people 13 to 30.

Doing a trawl of theatre companies I came across Contact Theatre in Manchester  England. A very hot site and a company policy of apppealing to 13 to 30 audience. I don't have anything for them at present but if you do they're worth the look and calling for submissions contacttheatre_Man.org

DAY 14 (1/28/08)
Today I sent THE WAKE: Monologues for the Dead as a one-act to the people below.  I am currently working on it as a full-length.   However, since I wrote the tentative ending it works as a complete one-act.  It's a literary piece and should play well in an academic environment.  Check it out on my website.  It's a whole new style for me. ~Edd

DYLAN DAYS CREATIVE WRITING CONTEST
Hibbing, MN
Deadline: 2-28-2008

Dylan Days is an annual event and an association dedicated to advancing the arts in Bob Dylan's hometown of Hibbing, Minnesota. Dylan Days is sending out its annual call for poetry, short fiction and—new for 2008—one-act plays for the Dylan Days Creative Writing Contest. In the brand new one-act play competition, one winner will be named along with honorable mentions. The winning playwright will receive $100 and have their work performed on the Hibbing Community College stage during Dylan Days as the featured entertainment for our annual Literary Showcase. The play will be cast with experienced actors and directed by Michael Ricci, the award-winning director of the HCC theatre program.
All submissions should be plays that have not been produced in any other theatres. They can be of any genre except musicals, or puppet theatre. Scripts should be between 30 and 60 minutes in length, and contain 3-6 characters. Settings should be fairly modest, staying away from extravagent set pieces and special effects. Content and subject matter are completely open, but should reflect what Bob Dylan came to be known for—an original voice who embraced a new direction, a unique vision with the power to move people. All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges, and the winning entry will be given a fully mounted production on the Hibbing Community College Theatre stage.
Entries need not be about Bob Dylan or use his style of writing; but they should strive for creativity, originality and literary theme.
You will be asked to provide your name, the title of piece, your phone number, address and your e-mail address along with the text of your work. Students will be asked to list the school or college they are enrolled in at the time of entry. Any special formatting must be done in HTML; otherwise entries should be submitted text only.
For more information on the one-act competition, contact Aaron Brown at aaronbrown@hibbing.edu or 218-262-7213, or Mike Ricci at 218-262-7377.

1/22/08 ]7th Sign Theatre, NY, whole script, email

1/23/08 The Blank Theatre, LA, email, 10 sample & 10 final
1/23/08 Quantum Theatre LA, email, 10 sample

1/27/08 Theatre Rats – NYC – email synop & script
1/27/08 TheatreWorks – Palo Alto – synop & 10 sample
1/28/08 Odyssey Productions DC, synop & script

I've had two requests for full copies of the script so far (from theatres that asked you to query with only a synopsis) and am one shy of being up to date with the spree.  I'm going to stop for now though because all the theatre left that I'm interested in require snail mail submissions and those will have to wait until the weekend when I can hit up the good folks at the Burbank post office.

By the way, if any of you are in Paris this March 2, please stop by Carr's Pub (metro: Tuileries) at 7:30 for a public reading of my play 'Communion of Saints' by the Moving Parts Theatre Group.  Hope to see some of you there!  :-)

DAY 15: IN THE VENUS ARMS (Farce.)  This black comedy features the playwright himself. Spiritless, Wells is threatened by the night manager of The Venus Arms, a residential hotel, with permanent dispossession, leaving an empty, ‘though very animated body. Four literati arrive to perform an "inorcism" (as opposed to an exorcism) to restore Wells’ spirit. Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas along with Oscar Wilde and Marcel Proust raise havoc while trying to raise the consciousness of the subject of their inorcism.  Franz Kafka, the night manager, keeps popping up in the form of a cockroach seemingly intent on the playwright’s doom. (Can be read on my website.)

DAY 16, 1/30/08
Great minds think alike, Kris.  Yesterday I sent an email to Odyssey (see above) to see if emailing them was entended to full-lengths.  They have yet to answer.  So, I packaged up DESERT DEVILS to mail to them and today I de-packaged it and decided to email it to them and save the postage.  DESERT DEVILS is the full-length version of TOUGH COOKIES, the one-act one hour play published by Samuel French.

We've passed the halfway mark and I'm VERY happy about that!

DAY 17 (1/31/08)
Today I sent The Rubbing via snail mail to the people below.  They allow two submissions, but I only had one piece that fit their theme of "Something left unsaid."  The Rubbing is one of the six tales from my full-length collection of interconnected shorts titled Tales From Darkest Suburbia. All the plays I have submitted during this Spree and more are on my website in their entirety.  ~Edd

GUIDELINES FOR PLAY SUBMISSION
* Each script must be no more than ten pages long.
* Plays should be inspired by the theme SOMETHING LEFT UNSAID.
* Each playwright may submit up to two scripts.
* Previously submitted plays, plays that have received production and any unsolicited longer one-act or full-length plays are not accepted for consideration in The Seven.
* Each manuscript must include a title page with name, address, phone number, and e-mail.

The easiest way to get ‘em to us is via e-submission. We require a nominal $5 fee to offset print and distribution costs, which you can pay conveniently on-line at our ticketing site. When you click on the following link, you'll be taken to a page where you will "Add to Cart" the $5 fee you'll see there, then, after you pay via credit card or PayPal, your receipt (also emailed to you) will include a web address that allows you to upload your script. If this is your first time visiting our ticketing site, you'll be asked to create a simple account that protects your transaction and allows us to contact you if something goes awry. All patron and artist information, including email addresses, are kept strictly confidential: FUSION never shares any information with any other organizations.

To access our e-submissions, please click this link.
Alternatively, if this all sounds too high-tech or Big Brotherish to you, or if you just don't want to spend $5, you may send one copy each of up to two different submissions to:
FUSION Theatre Co.
Attn: The Seven
700 1st Street NW
Albuquerque, New Mexico 87102

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IS THURSDAY, MAY 1, 2008!
Entries will be acknowledged by e-mail once they have been received by our literary manager. All playwrights will be informed of the FUSION’s final selection no later than May 12.
Staffing constraints prohibit our returning any submissions. The volume of scripts submitted hampers our ability to comment individually on each work; therefore we do not offer criticism.
Questions: use our contact form, attn: The Seven.
