Our Submission Spree has begun!  For the next 30 days we will send out at least one script per day either by email or by post.

Leave all information on this thread and THIS THREAD ONLY.  Tell us what day of the spree it is, what you sent, how you sent it (post or email), and all information that will allow another to enter their script or a URL to the website of the theatre soliciting scripts.

Go the playwrights' Noticeboard for submission opportunities.  Be sure to also check out the links to more opportunities that aren't posted. Also, please hunt down opportunities on your own and share them with us.

Submission Sprees give us a great chance to have our work produced.  TOGETHER we can all benefit!

DAY #1
This morning I emailed THOR'S DAY, a trashy full-length gay play with no redeeming qualities, to 6th at Penn Theatre.  All the information is below.  ~Edd

6th at Penn Theatre
Deadline: March 31, 2008
6th at Penn Theatre (http://6thatpenn.com) in San Diego, California, is initiating QPlays, a new program of gay plays with the initial series of five productions to be staged Fall 2008-Winter 2009. Two gay plays (non-musicals) are needed to complete the series.
Very briefly: These may be new or previously staged scripts, on any subject with no restriction on language, comedy or comedy-drama, with performance time of 70-85 minutes; eroticism (including nudity) is acceptable (even encouraged!) if it's honest and organic. If this interests you, please, before submitting, read our complete submission information at http://MyStage.info/submit. We cannot consider scripts that do not adhere to the specifications stated there.
       Thank you!
Michael Thomas Tower
Artistic Director, QPlays

I have sent my 10 minute play, "There's No Wrigley Field," to the Berea Arts Council, Berea, KY for it's 10 minute family relationships/quilts play festival. Submissions must be made by April 29, 2008. Winners will be selected by April 14, 2008. Winning plays will be produced August 1, 2008. For information about how to submit go to http://www.bereaartscouncil.org  Go to "Attention: Call for submissions" and click on the link you will find there.

PS Berea is about an hour from my house! It'd be great to have something produced in Kentucky.

Day two and I've just sent my one act play Skin Deep off to the Drama Association of Wales one act play competition.

Deadline March application forms from Teresa  at aled.dawe@virgin.net

PS have you noticed that more and more companies are being very specific either limiting the writers that they will accept submissions from or limiting the genre of material they'll accept?

Don't know if this counts, but I had a play to the Peace Play Contests sponsored by Goshen College, deadline was Dec. 31. Also, today am sending to Emerging Illinois Playwrights at Heartland Theatre in Bloomington, IL.

http://www.heartlandtheatre.org/EIPProject.htm

Goshen was hard copy. Heartland was e-mail. no fees.

What the hell is an "Emerging Playwright?" Sounds like some being from outer space crawling out of a swamp from a 1950's Black and White Sci-fi movie. What is wrong with just "Illinois Playwrights? " Also sounds so "bureaucracy." So many places around the country have "Emerging" programs it seems like the term came from some central fund raising scheme dreamed up by a committee at TCG. Though Heartland graciously clarifies stating any Illinois paywright, published, produced, etc. can submit. I am waiting for the "Emerging (Name of State) Playwright Event Experience " I emerged a long time ago. Just hoping not to submerge!

"Enemy destroyer 30 degrees off the starboard bow! Battle Stations! DIVE! DIVE!"

best,

in media res

P. S. On a search, I got 312,000 google mentions of "Emerging Playwright." It's a bit of a cliche' now.

Today I submitted - yes, again - PATRIOS to the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.

Details for submission can be found at: http://www.act-sf.org/site/PageServer?pagename=about_opps_scripts

I have about seven or so plays that have already been produced that are ready for submission and one unproduced one ready for submission, as well as two produced short plays (though I don't really intend to do anything with them except as an afterthought) so I figure I can focus on one show each day in terms of submitting it out there.

We'll see how that plan holds.

Today I have submitted PATRIOS to the Renegade Theatre Experiment in San Jose. It is, as I noted above, a full-length show. Sorry all you short-playwrights. I have little or no info for you, as I generally do not actually do anything with the short plays I write.

For those of you who write full-length plays, I hope you find the information I am posting useful, as it has taken me many hours to accumulate it all.

PS. It might be good to note that I am looking for very specific types of theatres - namely those that like to stage provocative work. If that info helps at all when considering submitting your own stuff to these places.

You mentioned that you only submit full-length plays. Do any of the theatre's you've submitted to accept one acts/10 minute plays?

PS. Please note that while many of these that I have listed come from the same listing page, I have checked most of their websites to make sure they are still in existence and have not listed any here that I have found to be no longer in business.

I cannot speak for what other programs the theatres I am submitting to offer. I am concerned with full length play production and I dismiss out of hand any links or competitions that are for short plays.

Thanks, Mary Alice, for the information on the Longwood 10-minute play festival. I was unaware of that one and am already feeling a bit desperate!

Today (Jan. 16) I emailed "The Awakening Effect" to the Heartland Theatre's 10-minute play contest with a coffee shop theme. Deadline is Feb. 1. Entry is free for emailed scripts, but $25 for hard copies. Details and an entry form at http://www.heartlandtheatre.org.
