| No, I hadn't seen it. Thanks! Endtimes Productions probably wants local (ie., NYC) playwrights, though, right?). Huh. No website either...

Well, I'm with Sue. I am up to my 126th submission for the year - over half of them done during "The binge." And I simply don't have anything right for what is currently out there. I have a play that has my heart and there is interest - but I stopped querying because I am waiting for the results of "stuff" and it is appropriate to wait. I did write an entire one act today (yes, it needs work) but I had been researching for weeks and took the day off from subbing and sat down at the computer and stayed there. Everything was in front of me - just needed to write it. This week I finished my "coffee shop" play to send out - so I do feel a lot has been accomplished. Also got my website up to date. I am trying to go over it monthly. I am working on the "One Shoe" deal at Heartland((e?) and am researching a play for my yearly "educational" commission. There are some opportunities I would like to go for - but you have to be "there" during some summer weeks when I am already contracted to work. I've also learned a lot by submitting. I now have a better feel of what I should submit where. I research more. And 75% of my work is for teens so my opportunities are often different than ones posted. All this to say - I am still part of the SUBMISSION SPREE but will only submit when it "fits!"
Was a good day to stay inside. Minnesota really doesn't believe in the concept of autumn. Days like this I miss New York.

Claudia, I miss New York every day of the week. You can't imagine how much. Ron has promised to spread my ashes all around Shubert Alley--not too soon I hope. :>)
DAY #20
Emailed Next to Moderator Paddy's Asphalt Jungle 2. She posted all the info on the forum yesterday.
Next is a short, humorous existential exercise where four characters in a waiting room are unaware of what it is they are waiting for. It is about how many of us remain in a kind of limbo where we wait to live and we wait to die--experiencing neither, experiencing nothing.
As with all my work, it can be found on my website in its entirety if anyone is interested. http://www.edwardcrosbywells.com

Okay guys. Asphalt Jungle Shorts was very successful...so we are doing it again in May.
This is how it works. The box office was set up on the fifth floor of a down-town parking garage in a mid-sized city. The first two plays were performed there, then the audience was lead to the back of a seedy hotel for two more plays. Then, we went to an empty store, the city hall, back to the empty store and finally, the last three pieces were performed in a bar.
This is what I am looking for. Short plays...anything from one or two minutes, to ten or twelve. The plays "must" be written to be performed in a particular site. Use your imagination...but if you give me a play that happens on a train, and I don't have a train, we won't do the play.
Here is a link to the city, if you'd like to get a feel for it.
http://www.kwtourism.ca/
Here are a some ideas for sites...
- Fire escape
- Shoe store
- City Hall (There is a huge fountain outside)
- There are some tiny parks - green spaces
- On the street
- Art Gallery
- Empty store (could be anything)
- Bar (it was perfect to end up in a bar, and we will do that again.
Notes - The hospital, police station, library...all too far to walk to. There is no industry downtown.
Any questions?
Get writing. I want to have received all plays by Valentine's Day. The process goes like this. I have six directors...I will have already done the first go-throughs...a pile of no plays...usually because the site wouldn't work, and a pile of maybes. The directors read them, pick their top three, we meet, we discuss, we decide.
As a playwright, I produced this event with the playwrights much in mind. I connected each director with their playwright, so they could discuss, the playwrights were paid a dollar a minute a night, I sent programs, posters, fliers, etc. along with the cheques.
Don't post here...send here skye_dragon@sympatico.ca

Okay, b/c I am desperate...I mean, b/c I think the idea is wonderful...I have sent five plays (sorry, Paddy ;-)), two of which are 10 minutes:
Remembering (hair salon play);
Wednesdays (cafe play--CAFE! Everyone has a CAFE!!!);
and three one-minute pieces:
Clowning (in a house);
Boundaries (in a house);
Tea Cozy (on a porch).
Now, if none of these get chosen, I shall be forced to sit in a corner and cry for a number of hours. :)

Well, I just realized I sent this info as a new thread/topic, so once again:
Hello Everyone
I'm a new member, just joined and saw the spree thread, so I wanted to let people know about this website:
http://www.playwritingopportunities.com/
which is updated monthly and now has November and December opportunities. (Maybe this is one everyone already knows about but thought it wouldn't hurt.)

| Bad news: I just got to work and discovered that the Kaqliuga Arts is not reading new works until February 2007. In my case this means having to resubmit at that time. BillySundae

Day #21
Thanks, Edd, for complimenting my titles! I just hope the plays measure up...
(I'm a day behind, but I'll try to catch up tonight.)
Submitted "Hong Kong Phooey Hustle" to The Blank Theatre Company, in ongoing opps.:
Submissions - Playwrights
The Blank accepts plays for consideration both for our Mainstage and for our
Living Room Series (workshops of new plays).
The Submission Package should include:
- a one-line "logline" for the play
- a one to two page synopsis of your play (story and themes)
- a character breakdown list (including ages and gender)
- set and any special production requirements
- production history (if any)
- playwright's bio
- [size=twenty-page writing sample (representative/best ten pages of the play and last ten pages)]
Please e-mail your submission package to: info@theblank.com
The synopsis need not include every plot detail, but it should cover the setup, what's at stake, and how the story resolves in the last act.
Submission material will not be returned.
The work submitted must be entirely the property of the author.
Reworks or adaptations of plays by other authors will be considered only if you control the rights or if the material is in the public domain.
No phone calls or personal deliveries will be accepted.
We usually will read the material within two months, though we do not offer critiques on submissions.
Many times we are forced to pass on plays we admire because they don't fit our production needs.
If your material looks right for us, we will contact you to send the manuscript.
Thanks!

Dropped out there for a while but have to earn a living. I'm a free lance journo and we are in the middle of the drought of the century here... Now here's an idea for a play and it's fact ....Adelaide, say our third or fourth largest city will run out of drinking water in 12 months if we don't get considerable and I mean considerable rain. Work on that one somebody.
Catching up I sent a copy of Tiger Country... very Australian to our local professional group The Riverina Theatre Company... only take Aussie work I'm afraid.
Sent my full length The Girl I left Behind me... cast of five so I hope some of you have sent nice big cast scripts to David Wicks at CSU and I sent a synopsis of my full length Three Toe Scratch to Because It's There in Los Angeles.
Edd our community theatre company is planning a short play festival for Nov next year. If you don't mind I'll steal your asphalt play idea, just what we need. Performance spaces are a pain for us.
The best Nic

I'm catching up here with three submissions to Asphalt Jungle Shorts, which sounds like a blast. I would love to do the same thing in my city.
"Crappy at Yoga", set in a yoga studio.
"Love in Italian", set in an art gallery.
"Not What Not to Wear", set in a cafe.
And now I want to write a play set in a laundromat, too...
P.S. My Dashboard Shrine show was great fun last night. It was terribly rainy and somewhat cold, but the saint candles provided a welcoming glow (though a little less of a welcoming glow when the Day of the Dead altar ever-so-slightly caught on fire.)
