Well, it's been all excitement around here, what with selling an armoire through the almighty Craigslist. I then turned to L.A. Craigslist and submitted my multimedia political drama "Cautionary Tale" to a new company posting therein.

Well done!
Can also add for myself four electronic submissions of
my ten minute play :Shall We Dance?
Oh and one copy of my one-acter came back so quickly I actually thought I must have mailed it in the return envelope by mistake. No note or rejection slip enclosed.
Well you can't win 'em all.
I shall send the script elsewhere. Don't want to waste it.

I was away for the first half of March and came back to bingeing with the playwrightbinge group. I attempted to post some subs the other day and I "lost" the message. (Don't ask) For those who asked at the beginning - is stuffing literary agents mailbox worth it? Yes! Yes Yes! I have been in five festivals thus far in 2007. I just returned home from ten days of developing a play (all paid for) and I have new publications. Are they all from the binge? No. But they are all from the habit of sending plays - developed by the binge.
So: a sub:
Short Leaps (less than 15 minute plays) to Three Wise Monkeys. Due date: April 30, 2007. Limit: two submissions per playwright. All plays must have a title page that inlude e-mail and telephone number. All production history must be noted. Send to:
newplays@threewisemonkeys.org Please but "SHOT LEAPS in the subject line)
Happy writing all and subbing all.

| A play I submitted during last fall's submission spree-- to Lakeshore Players' 10 minute play contest -- "There's No Wrigley Field" has been named a finalist in that contest! That's great inspiration for me to get busy in this spree and finish strong so that I actually get out thirty plays.

| I sent a query to Hamburg Players, an English language theatre, in Hamburg, Germany about a 10 minute play I've written called "Hitler in Heaven."

...congrats on "...Whitey Ford"
...I was in the semi list there but didn't make the final cut. I made the finals a couple years ago with a play that ended up later in a professional reading off-broadway (go figure?) but can't seem to crack the finale. too bad for me as I'm within easy driving distance of the Twin Cities.
keep up the good work and good luck to you...

| I sent a query to The Rover Rep Theatre (Hamburg, Germany) regarding a 10 minute play, "Hitler in Heaven," which I hope will be appropriate for its reading series.

Hi Timmy! I know the feeling of getting plays everywhere except where you can actually get to! I cannot get arrested in MN (altho - finally have two short plays with the Northfield Arts Guild in April - a festival I can actually drive to). Someone told me he could not get a NY production until he left NY! But you were off B'dwy with a really good play!
Meanwhile: do remember to check En Avant for opportunities!
If you haven't checked them - you will be happil surprised. It's run by a playwright and very informative.

Hi back, Claudia...
Northfield is a very cool town. My son took a Show Choir summer class there and stayed on campus at St. Olaf's for a week. I was just there in early March watching a basketball tournament.
I considered sending something up there but was under the impression plays were all "self-directed"...is that true?

RE: Northfield. You do assemble your own play - or get a director. I got a director for the Saturday night one - and she assembled the huge cast of two. And I am using two of my student for the Friday night one (which is all of three minutes - but I like it). How far is Northfield from you? Next year? Went visiting colleges there last year but have not been into the town.
Meanwhile: (so I am not a bore for those who are subbing): GreenLightInfo@aol.com seeking one acts - must be a female playwright (sorry guys). Cover letter must have: Name, address, phone, e-mail, cast number and gender, short symopsis. Play should be 15-45 minutes. It is in NYC - associated with Columbia and they would like if you are there for some of the development - but I did query and ask - and they said - yes, it would be nice but not necessary.

I'm within an hour south of Northfield, Claudia. On a windy day, I can spit and hit Iowa :)
And a sidenote for you (possible submission): http://www.matchboxchildrenstheatre.org
I know you write children's theater (and I don't)...they do a lot of summer theater and might be interested in one of your scripts since you're "semi-local"...check it out. They're probably scripted for this summer but next year?

Thanks Timmy. I appreciate the link. 75% of my stuff is theatre for young audiences or acted by young performers. And - I wondered where "Oz" was. Ever get to the "Cities?" I am at the tail end of child-rearing so I am just getting mobile. Do you belong to the Playwright's Center of Mpls?
Meanwhile, because I cannot in good conscience post here with giving you all an "opp." - another one - just came in:

Just put out three copies of two short plays by
electronic submission.
I reckon that must give me over thirty subs.
Oh and by the way I must confess misjudged the
people who bounced my paper sub back. They did
send me an e-mail also with a offer to talk about
the play. Another company are pushing to me to make
one of the one acts into a full script with a promise of
possible production next Spring.
So it seems the message is Get It Out!

Felicitaciones to everyone and their great successes!
I submitted two plays to Emerging Artists Theatre.
I spent Sunday in an all-day workshop of my play, with a staged reading that evening. While the process was informative, I found my play received the least time and attention of the four plays being workshopped. The director obviously agreed, because she wrote me that she wants to do a "fuller" production of it next month. So, sort of a backhand success, but better than none at all...

Many thanks for the mention of En Avant.
Found a few useful contacts there and must
work through the source list more fully when
time permits.
A major problem remains, of course, the frequent demand
for hard copy. Air mail costs are really prohibitive.
Still I managed to get in half a dozen short play subs.
Again thanks.

I submitted two plays-- Barn Yard Conversation and There's No Wrigley Field-- to Three Wise Monkeys Theatre.
(See Claudia's posting above for more information and the organization's web address.)
Altogether this makes 17 plays and 16 queries I've sent out during the current submission spree. Next time we do this I'm going to do my best to start working on submitting earlier in the cycle so that I can reach the goal of submitting 30 plays!

17 plus 16 still sounds like pretty good going.
Myself I've managed 23 paper submissions plus a couple
of synopses only; and twenty plus submissions by
e-mail.
Nothing has stuck so far. The couple of synopses came
back but at least it saves on the printing and postage.
Three or four of the e-mails came back having missed a
closing date or were ineligible in some way. I do wish
submission guidelines gave thought to making themselves
clearer and pointing up any exclusions especially local or country-wise. I do appreciate that for various reasons there are exclusions but it would help to be told about these. Of course, perhaps sometimes quoting an exclusion may be a diplomatic way of rejecting. Just a thought?
Hope the rest of you had better luck.

My one minute play submission to "Gone in 60 Seconds 2007 Festival" has been selected by Brooklyn College. I learned about it's existence on this Forum.

Billy,
Thanks.
Hey, it's only a minute. But it is still kind of neat. But, I guess there are people's submissions from all over the world, which is kind of fun. At least there are in the Harrogate Theatre (England) part, which has already staged their 2007 pieces.
I wonder if matthew matthew matthew had submitted his astonishing piece, "A Little Soul." It would have been a perfect venue.
best,
