I have also posted the following response under my play, "FORE! PLAY - A Golf Story."

Yet, again, thanks to all for your insightful comments.

That, again, is what this Forum is all about.

Take advantage of it. I have incorporated suggestions from Forum members on everything I have posted since becoming a member. Even the things I originally disagree with can be most enlightening and make me think in another direction. That is what this site is all about.

I think the critiques are top-notch. Believe me, they are as good as any college professor's/teacher's of playwriting, and I know enough of them! (I am not knocking them, just complimenting you! And I still am in touch with several college profs from whom I've learned.)

And remember, all the critiques on this site ARE FREE! (If Someone turns out to be a jerk, Paul, edd, or paddy will ostracize them.).

And, I can assure you, the comments on this site are as good as any regional funded theatre world Literary Manager's as you will find. I have worked with them as an actor! Many of you have read their comments on your own submissions. Am I not correct?! Don't sell yourselves short.

We can all be proud of ourselves and continue to help our fellow playwrights out as we would want to be helped out. As you know, I do my best to help out. I would love to see more posts of new/trial work. And more critiques of the work. It is just damn exciting to read new work.

As "muncy" said so beautifully, "It is good to know that whenever I want to read good quality contempory theatre, I will always find it on this site. - David”

Just remember, shorter works are easier on this site than longer works, but I and others have critiqued longer works. 10-15 pages seems about right. Sometimes my and other's critiques go through a PM. You can always critique through a PM if you do not want to post publicly on the site. I do it all the time. But, if you have a longer work you think worthy POST IT. It is really just a matter of time people have in this busy, busy world. You will have better luck with the shorter stuff, or scenes from longer pieces.

If you have the time, critique the posted works as much as you can, but with the respect and restraint of professionals no matter how many works you have written or had produced. Courtesy is all. Even just a simple "I liked it" is better than nothing. I remember from the book "The World According to Garp," the big publishing magnate would secretly go down and have the Cleaning Lady of his building give a critique to find out how a book would REALLY be received, over all the opinioins of the in-house professional editors and critics!!!!

Any comment is better than none. For those "guests" who roam around the site...jump in and JOIN as a member! I never did until it became a well-moderated and overseen Forum.

I have no vested interest in this site, just the promotion of good writing and the respect for the art and craft. And I thank Paul, Paddy and Edd for running a tight ship!

Again, I thank all. And hope you will all post and participate more.

This site is a gift.

Best,

In media res

Thank you, in media res.

This site is "a gift," as you say.  And, a rare one indeed.  It is a gift from Paul Thain and The Internet Theatre Bookshop who finance and maintain this site.   A creation of Paul's vision, there is none other like it on the Internet.

It is also a gift we can give to one another.

We have the opportunity to post our work and to have it critiqued.  Let us use that opportunity.  Take the time to read some of the plays posted and give the time to help our fellow playwrights--if only by acknowledging we've read their work with a simple "thank you."

We have monthly Green Room Salons where we get to dialogue with Theatre professionals who share their talent and knowledge with us.  We won't get that anywhere else.  Let us take advantage of it.

Paddy offers us writing challenges that are designed to get us thinking and creating and ultimately produced.  Playwrights play write.  Why so few take advantage of such a wonderful opportunity to develop writing skills?

In conjunction with Paddy's efforts, I offer a monthly playwrighting contest for prizes that are mailed directly to you.  Again, why so few . . . ?

We have lists of links to links for submission and publishing opportunities, monthly lists of opportunities and lists of ongoing opportunities.  Let us use them.

We have a place to network and to share ideas and opinions in a helpful, hospitable environment.

We have all this and more.

Some of us have been here for many years and have become more than simply "virtual" friends.

We have so much going on here in The Playwrights' Forum, yet it is but a fraction of what could be happening here.  This Forum is what we make it.

Get involved.  Think of this as your personal playwrights' retreat where you can be yourself and share yourself with other like-minded folk.  Let us grow together.  Let us mentor one another.

I have watched, over many years, young men and women come to this forum, some starting out in college, grow from writing their first one page or ten minute play to having plays produced around the country.  I have watched myself grow and change from thinking I knew far more than I did to learning much about myself, the craft of playwriting and a bit about the nature of You.

The Playwrights' Forum is a journey and we are all on it.  We are all at different stages of this journey, but with very little effort we all can reach out and touch our fellow playwrights on whatever level of accomplishment we may have achieved--at whatever point in the journey.  What other profession is so close to the Human heart?

Leave apathy at the door and jump in--make a splash!

I wish you laughter, bravos and fabulous lighting,

~Edd
