Saw this film yesterday and was totally blown away. It was fabulous. Of course Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the greatest actors of our time and did an amazing job as Daniel Plainview. In fact, Day-Lewis is the best reason to see this movie.
I've never seen a character with so much depth...from the first scene in the silver mine to the dramatic finale, I was mesmerized.
Metaphors abound in this spectacular work...I will have to see it again because I'm sure I missed several visual motifs.
Highly recommended. I'm very impressed with the Academy for nominating this rare treasure for an Academy Award.

| Yes, I agree wholeheartedly. Both the film and Mr. Lewis left lasting impressions. You don't see acting like this often. It was almost as if we were outside the film and inside it both looking inside the film and outside. I saw the film over a month ago and can still see many of the moments in my mind.

Hello, Corerro:
Yes, it was truly amazing. I'm really looking forward to watching the Academy Awards tomorrow night and see how it does. I also saw "No Country For Old Men" this week and was equally impressed.
btw: I was inspired to write an essay about "There Will Be Blood" on my blog. If you want to check it out go to: http://www.emeraldcity48.blogspot.com
(scroll down past the Richardson article)

| I also saw "No Country" and was really disturbed by it. It's inspiring to see what happens when you break the mold. There was somethng exhilirating abotu the frustration I felt at the end of that film. They didn't show me anything I wanted to see.

What I liked about No Country was how the director did not play it safe with a typical Hollywood ending where the bad guy gets killed and the hero is the victor. This was just the opposite. Very refreshing.
Loved Brolin's character...he did a superb job in this film.
No Country is different in many ways from Let There Be Blood; it was definitely an action movie that kept you on the edge of your seat, whereas Blood was 100 percent character driven.
Two great movies. Wonder which (if either) will get the Oscar.

The Irish are standing TALL tonight. Here's a link to RTE
If you listen to the young fellas interview on Morning Ireland, he's telling the story of his Ma, when she was 16 and the Beatles were in Dublin.........and there he was a few nights ago dining with with his Ma and Ringo Starr and his Ma was able to tell Ringo about the time when the Beatles came to Dublin and she broke into the back door of the Theatre cause she had no tickets and the Beatles all walked into the room and she's under the table. Great story
