I think many of you have read enough of my critiques to realize how much I respect the art of playwriting and the art of directing, acting, producing and the beauty of theatre.
So I must share with you my simple critique of one of the plays I read for the competition I am judging. There is a whole form I am supposed to fill out. But sometimes there is an exception to break the requirements.
And you all know I am not disparaging or demeaning in any of the critiques I post on the Forum. I respect the work and sympathize with the efforts we all go through whether as actor, writer, producer or audience member as much as anyone I know (as self-congratulating as that may sound) but I stake my history on the Forum will bear it out.
All that being said, I only share my comment because I think it is one of the briefest works of art I have ever written:
This is all I wrote on the form to be submitted:
“Let me just be succinct: If you shuffled this script up like a deck of cards it would make as much or more sense or no sense as it did in its present format.”
best,

P.S. So, I post this as encouragement to all to "KEEP WRITING. THE WORLD AND THE THEATRE NEEDS YOU."
P.S.P.S.: I also, on the other hand, had the wonderful opportunity to read the best play that I have read in years, and told them so. I gave it my absolutely highest recommendation and yet I fear they will hesitate to select it because...well just because. We'll see.Last edited on Sat Feb 23rd, 2008 02:36 pm by in media res
