Tonight I will meet at 10:30pm with 5 other writers.  We will be given a subject theme, a random line that has to be incorporated into the script, a prop, and 4-5 headshots of actors that we will use.

We will return at 10am the next morning with a 12 (ish) page script in hand, hand it off to the directors and actors, and return at 7pm and again at 9pm to see our babies take flight.

I've participated in this once before and actually had a pretty good script evolve from the process.

A bit wary about tonight as I have a show (acting) opening on Sunday, I'm fighting a nasty cold of sorts, and our baby boy is due in less than two weeks.

Fingers crossed!

I love the sound of that too - maybe you can post your piece?

Actors waiting in the wings for their lines, that's got to be inspiring!

Alive - sort of.  Rather sick (tonsilitis) but got through the 21 hour fest, tech, opening night, whew.

So the evening went wonderfully - new actors, writers, directors.  Some incredibly creative pieces.

Parameters:  Had to include the line "Our love is like a __________(random appliance) its ____________, ___________, and _____________.  But I'm okay with that.

Had to incorporate a deck of playing cards into each show.  Ours won for best prop - as you'll see below I had the silly little crass joke written in there.  Our director taped the playing cards together and with string made them into a necklace of sorts for the kids opening bit - so each had their respective first letter from the Funshine United Children of Kindness.

Side note - I was lucky to write for a few friends, particulary one who is hispanic, so I tossed in those barbs.  I apologize if anyone takes offense, I knew it was taken with a sense of humor from all else but just want to cover my bases.

So listed below is my creation from 12pm - 2:30am

*edit - trying to reformat*

Darn it.  Swore that worked at first.  I've no idea how to post it and make it pretty.  Will keep playing.  Sorry!

The NY Times wrote a wonderful piece about this process several years ago. Sounded like a lot of fun.

Anyone know how to look it up and post the link?

A friend of mine who had a call back for a grad school had to do the same thing about two weeks ago with the applying student directors, actors and playwrights.

best,
