I wish people would post more about themselves under the members' profiles. Why don't they?
I guess it is sufficient to know that they are playwrights. . .that's the most important thing.
However, I would like to know what kind of plays people like, which playwrights they prefer, what their influences are, what their goals are for their own work, whether they are experienced or just starting out.
Maybe it has something to do with the format of that section, Paddy, Edd? Or is it just that people don't want to post any info? I can understand them wanting to keep their e-mail address private etc. However, I wish they would tell more about themselves.

This Forum gives new members an opportunity to tell us about themselves

I think Paul pretty much summed up and invited all of what you'd like to see when he created that section. I must say that I've yet to meet a playwright reticent to talk about him or her self. Perhaps, because it is quite often the first post made by a new member that we are reluctant to say too much too soon. But if we older members went back to that section and started posting more about ourselves it might change or set a trend. Why not start a thread where we can all go into the gory details of ourselves--all the things you suggested? Go back to the "Please, Introduce yourself..." section and leave a bio/resume and some nifty stuff we'd love hearing about you--like how does a Greta become a Will Kemp? I'll bet that within days there will be many here who will follow suit. They may just need someone like you to lead the way. I think you've got a great idea! The greatest thing about this forum is its members--honest, caring, helpful, genuine--just plain good folk. Remember, for all we say about ourselves, our interactions with other members speak volumes.

Over time on this Forum we all learn through the dribs and drab... the plips and plops of our posts - whether through PM's or public posts - about who we all are.

I will try that -- I will re-introduce myself with more details, at the time that I post my play, and see if I can start a trend of newcomers telling more about themselves.
I could not bring myself to use the name of one my favorite playwrights, Euripides, or Shakespeare, so I chose the moniker Will Kempe, which I think is suitably humble. Also, Will Kempe, like me, was an obscure scholar.
I was looking at old manuscripts in a university library and I discovered that he was educated. I ran across a pamphlet on math by Ramus which Kempe translated. I think the translator was the same Kempe who was in Shakespeare's troupe because this Kempe was involved with Shakespeare's crowd, and so was Ramus. Ramus was in England, apparently visiting the Sydneys or their publishers.
It was very daring of Kempe to translate Ramus, because Ramus was an Aristotelian logician in the tradition of Catholic-Aristotelian scholars, and the Catholic-Aristotelians were being tortured and their books on Aristotle were banned. Two of Shakespeare's Catholic relatives were tortured and when Ramus returned to France, he was murdered -- thrown out a window by religious fanatics.
Also, I think Kempe screwed up, like me. I think that I read somewhere that he was thrown out of the acting troupe for acting inappropriately onstage. Perhaps he cussed onstage, and cussing onstage was prohibited by law during James' reign. I was recently shunned out of a playwriting circle, because I told a woman that her play had a one-dimensional character.
That taught me a lesson -- some playwrights are not as thick-skinned as comedians -- so I am trying to stay be and not sound too critical. However, I personally hope that people tell me the truth about my play when I post it. I am my own worst critic, so I doubt that they will criticize me any worse than I do myself. I think that some of my own characters may be one-dimensional, and I am trying to correct that.
