After a chat with Rusty Nixon it occured to me that a really good synopsis might be a useful tool in getting a 'reader' past the first few dull lines of any play i might submit.

Is there a thread on here which deals with this subject? If not, could i suggest we start one? I know the one effort at a synopsis i have made is just awful! So any tips on how to write an attention grabbing one would be most welcome!

regards

I'll see if I can get bg to post the synopsis of one of his plays.

I don't know why, exactly...but I think it's an excellent example of one.

This is a synopsis for one of bg's plays.  Hope he doesn't mind I posted it here...but I think it shows how simply one needs to grab a reader.

It's midnight on the night before the Leaving Certificate Examination English paper. Six students barricade themselves into a room in a heritage centre demanding an end to the Leaving Certificate. The room was once home to a man who died on hunger strike in an English prison during the War of Independence. He charted a course for himself and stuck to it. Have these present-day protesters the courage of their conviction, and just how far will they go to prove their point? 'The Leaving' is an exploration of the nature of commitment to an ideal.

I think giving the idea of the story, without giving away the best parts.  Allowing for a teaser.

The standard...don't say my mum loves it.

I have found, interestingly enough, they don't want huge bios, they don't want a long synopsis.  I don't think they much care how many productions you've had or reading the reviews.  They just want to read a good play.
