I am getting one of my plays published. A mid-size one-act: 30 pages. Smaller, specialty publisher which is good for this particular play, as it has a specialty focus. Given its genre, it will get more personal, hands-on marketing than with a general play publisher. One-acts can often get lost.
It is kind of pleasing to me that it is a sweet, realistic, play. Very human (whatever the hell that means!) It is kind of the tone of my short play, “Snow Tail,” that I had posted earlier.
I also want to thank the Dramatists Guild of America for reviewing the contract. It was a simple contract, which I like. But I had problems with some of it and told the publisher. I e-mailed it to The Dramatists Guild and I received a thorough, clinical and passionate analysis of the contract in 3 days! No question they are my advocate! It has been incorporated into the final agreement. And this was just by being a member of the Guild. There was not any extra fee involved. This is why I recommend everyone joining if you can afford the $95 per year.
Mind you, everything was friendly and courteous and professional throughout with the publisher. But what may appear to be something minor in a contract, could actually be something big legally, and not necessarily made with wrongful intentions by either party. Specificity of language is all in a contract. Just as it is in a poem. What you may think you are agreeing to, may not be what you are actually agreeing to.
As I always say, "CAVEAT EMPTOR: Let The Buyer Beware."
Anyway, glad to share the good news with you.
best,

Very cool.
Also -- if you're a student then Guild membership is half price. You have to end them a copy of your school ID.

in media res,
What wonderful news! Congratulations. A lovely Christmas present indeed. Yes, you must let us know the play title and how to get it when it's published.
As regards the Dramatists Guild, I'm nearly two months late with my dues--and counting. Anybody got an extra $95 USD you can send my way? :>)
