Please come see a staged reading of my NYU MFA thesis play THE TEMPLE OF THE SOUL at the Public Theater.
WHEN: Saturday, May 10th at 3pm.
WHERE: The Public Theater, 425 Lafayette, New York City
RSVP: 212.998.1985 (not required, but suggested)
THE TEMPLE OF THE SOUL stars Tony-winning actor Frank Wood as an anatomist, physician, and Portuguese-Jewish refugee tries to find safety, love, and integrity in Elizabethan London. It's inspired by the life of Dr Ruy Lopes Gallo, Shakespeare's supposed "original of Shylock."
Thanks. Hope to meet some of you there!

Sounds very interesting RLN. Wish I could be there.
Let us know how it goes.
Is this the play someone you respected basically told you something like "Forget it? It'll never work?" I remember you had posted something, but not sure whether it was this play or not.
I remember us all telling you to do it anyway. Kind of a touche' if it is!!!
best,

Thanks.
The play that would "never work" is a different play.
It will be stage-read at the Kennedy Center later this summer.
Best wishes,
Rebecca

Fantastic!
Were you pleased with the way the reading went?
Did you learn something from it? Did it help? Clarify anything?

Dear IMR,
I don't think I learned much from this reading. It's the second time I've heard the play stage-read and it hasn't changed that much. This was mostly about exposure, and is also the culmination of the MFA course.
But there was a decent-sized audience, people either liked it or didn't tell me that they didn't, and I got some requests for the script from a director and people at a few theatre companies.
It's not my favourite of my plays so there are others I'm more excited about.
(Such as THE GIRL IN THE IRON MASK, being produced again in DC, July 11th-27th.)
