I was just wondering has anyone heard of this man.  The world's worst Poet.  I discovered him yesterday when I was reading the Times (London) some of his poems are up for auctioin this month.  Then I went to a website dedicated to him.  I was very amused by him.

Here is The Times article

re william mcgonagall.. of course I've heard of him!

the uber brilliantly bad poet - years back I had the book spike milligan wrote about him (william mcgonagall - the truth at last) and also saw the film Milligan made, along with Peter Sellers - a very odd but interesting film, set almost entirely on stage in a Victorian theatre.. was thinking about it the other day, and was planning to source it via naughty means, online. (There's a large online community of film geeks interested in non mainstream cult and eclectic film)..

most colonial Goon or Milligan fans, know of McGonagall and his gloriously bad poetry..
anyone who starts off poems with
"Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooh..."

can't be all bad :)

Well Ian Fraser

I just love this McGonagall fellow, he's had me in stiches over the weekend. He came to America didn't like the look of the place and the way people socialised on a Sunday, and promptly returned to England
I love his autobiography dedicated to himself and he's wanting to be the Poet Laureate.
