Mana:
Old ones on the sidewalks,
bundled up: men with walkers,
women with orthopedic shoes

Younger ones by the beach,
men in white fedoras, smoking;
women with blue veils, covering
their blackened eyes

Some live farther down the street,
in ramshackle brownstones, born
in music, dying in skepticism, trying
like hell to make a whole of it all

Still others live if one follows
the lanes to white cottages
where women laugh; to stone
towers that tilt toward olive groves
