Me Ma made a great coddle
she would send one of us
to the shops to get her a
bunch of parsley, thyme and a few onions
Around to the butchers
two pounds of sausages and rashers
She would sit at her kitchen table
peeling the potatoes for her
Dublin Coddle, she didn't do carrots
the recipe she got from her mother
The old pot she called her
coddle pot, she would carefully
put all the ingredients in and
placed her pot over her range
She would be one hundred years old
this year had she lived
she was born two months into the Irish civil war
which we are commemorating this year
We will be honouring her
in our kitchen during the year
sending her great grandkids down to the butchers
a pot of her coddle on the cookerLast edited on Mon Mar 14th, 2022 03:21 pm by Potabasil
