I hope some of the more experienced writers around here can answer this question. It is basically to do with the use of technology generally, but more specifically use of back screen projectors in theatre.

I suppose the first rule is that as playwright I should rather leave the choice with the director on how to organize the stage. Well, I am just wondering about this anyway.

The scenario is basically this. I am writing a musical that involves some scenes in the bush. There are many ways I can do this. If I have lots of money I can do the Lion King thing and build the whole bush on stage. A much cheaper way however is to project images on a back screen with a projector.

Taking this a step further, one can use this method to project anything on the back screen, making scene changes almost instantaneous. With this method I can take my play from the pyramids in one scene to New York in the very next scene.

I have not seen this being used on stage yet, but then, we do not see too many Broadway size large scale plays out here where I live.

What is the opinions of the more experienced writers around here on this matter?
