ShortLived 3.0, a playwriting competition featuring local playwrights and theater groups scored by audiences, runs every Friday and Saturday night at 8PM at The Lab, 6320 Santa Monica Blvd. (at Vine), Los Angeles.

Any Los Angeles area playwright may submit any style of short play - sketch comedy, dramatic, or something in between are all welcome - so long as it has not been fully produced anywhere else, and it does not run longer than 12 minutes.

The script will be directed and performed by PianoFight company members.

ShortLived consists of six 2 week rounds and a finals weekend. The top 4 plays will remain in the competition for subsequent rounds, unless they score 5th place or below. The bottom 4 plays will be dropped from the competition. If the piece wins the round, it will automatically clinch a spot in the Championship Weekend where the playwright will have a chance to compete for a 1 month original full length run in both LA and SF.

Submissions can be sent to Please put "Playwright Submission" in the subject line.

NOTE: Submissions should not be prop heavy or require too much tech/sets - also, submitting playwrights must be from the Southern California. There is no deadline to submit and playwrights may submit as often as they would like.
