Stagecrafters Community Theatre is soliciting unpublished, short (10-15 minute) plays for our 6th Annual New Works Play Festival. Play material is limited to adult drama and comedy pieces. No musicals or children’s plays will be considered. Playwrights can submit their script to Stagecrafters by postal mail, email, or drop-off. Submissions must be received by midnight on Wednesday, March 31, 2010.

Scripts selected by the Playreading Committee will be announced May 10, 2010. Guidelines for playwrights can be found on the Stagecrafters website,
http://www.stagecrafters.org, go to PROGRAMS > NEW WORKS PLAY FESTIVAL.

Selected plays will be performed at the New Works Play Festival in June 2010 on the 2nd Stage, Stagecrafters’ black-box theatre located in the former balcony of the Baldwin Theatre. Local actors, directors and production crews will produce the plays.

2010 GUIDELINES


PURPOSE:

1. To provide a venue for new short-format plays.

2. To foster the development of new theatrical works and new playwrights, as well as the directing and acting skills of members of Stagecrafters. The New Works Play Festival VI will feature ten to twelve (10 to 12) new short plays, to be staged and performed by local talent.

PLAY SUBMISSION AND REVIEW PROCESS:

1. Submissions are limited to two plays per author.

2. Playwrights are to submit their work in any of the following manners:

A) By mail (please provide at least two copies of your script with a cover letter),

B) By personal delivery to the Stagecrafters Business Office (please provide at least two copies of your script with a cover letter), or

C) By e-mail submission to
hofftadevic@aol.com (please submit in PDF, Word [.DOC], rich text [.RTF], or plain text document format [.TXT]).
3. Submissions must be received by midnight on Wednesday, March 31, 2010.

4. Plays submitted
must run no longer than 15 minutes when performed.
5. Play material will be limited to adult drama/comedy pieces. No musical or children’s plays will be considered. The goal is to feature previously non-produced works.

6. Blind submission policy: author’s information should appear on/within the cover letter only.

7. Scripts will not be returned.

8. The plays will be reviewed and selected by a committee made up of Stagecrafters members.

The plays chosen will be announced by May 10, 2010 on our website at http://www.stagecrafters.org.

CASTING/REHEARSAL/PRODUCTION INFORMATION:

1. The New Works Play Festival Co-Producers will identify directors by May 20, 2010.

2. Directors will choose their own actors.

3.
Basic lighting and sound support will be provided. Limited set pieces will be provided. Directors will provide their own props as needed and are responsible for their removal.
4. Regular rehearsals will be held at the discretion of each director and cast. Space on the 2
nd Stage will not be reserved until the festival’s tech week. Technical rehearsal time will be scheduled on the 2nd Stage during the week before the public performances.
5. Photographs may be taken by the Play Festival Committee for lobby display and for promotional or archival purposes. Videotaping of the performances is at the discretion of the playwright.
