SUBMISSION DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 8TH, 2010 :
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL:
Bedlam values artists that challenge not just form and content but process as well on their adventure to reflect, celebrate and reinvent themselves and their society. The ten-minute time frame is designed to encourage the height of creative risk taking, invention, experimentation on a personal, process and content level.
The Festivals goals are as a venue for
· Artists to develop new work and try new things
· Bedlam to meet new artists
· Cross-discipline experimentation (designers come direct!, audience come perform!)
We curate for a balance of :
· works intended as ten-minute pieces
· works intended as seeds of larger projects (that may or may not be intended for production at Bedlam)
· current Bedlam associated artists
· artists new to or outside of Bedlam
· collaborative creations & devised work
· script-based work
· visually-based (includes puppet, object, spectacle and sometimes film/video)
· movement-based
· music-based (musical theater, music theater, theater with music, music)
· community based (both engaging non-professionals in the creative process and/or work inspired by or involving a particular group, subculture or demographic.)
· issue or information inspired
· politically motivated
· audience interactive
· outdoor, site-specific, promenade, indoor, static
· absurd, sober, ecstatic, comedic and tragic
Each piece has both Project Leadership and Generative Artist(s). Project Leader(s) may be a director, lead collaborator, choreographer, facilitator, producer, etc.. The Project Leader is responsible for seeing the project through to fruition. Generative Artist(s), may be a playwright, a collaborative ensemble, a designer, composer, choreographer.
