Hi everyone,
This is a 5-minute play I wrote very hastily just now for a submission to the Working Collective Theatre (http://theworkingtheatrecollective.wordpress.com/).

I know it's not my best, but wonder if it could be fixed up into something worth shopping around, or if I should just leave it as an exercise.

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Carl

A and C should dress somewhat similarly, as should B and D, who each wear kneesocks and short bottoms (short shorts, miniskirt, etc.)

Scene
An empty stage. This could be anywhere, real or dreamed.

Time
Tonight.
AT RISE: A and B on stage. B wears kneesocks and short bottoms.

A Hey.

B Hey.

A You must be --

B Yes.

A I like your kneesocks.

B Thanks.

A What have you got under them?
(On another part of the stage, C and D meet. D also wears kneesocks and short bottoms.)

C Hey.

D Hey.

C You must be --

D Why must I?

C Your kneesocks.

D My kneesocks.

C I really like them.

D Thanks.

C What have you got under them?

D A tattoo.

C Can I see it?

D Sure.

B You want to know what I have under my socks?

(D pulls down a sock. There is a hammer of Thor tattooed down the entire calf.)

C Wow.

D You like what you see?

A Yes. Very much.

B Too bad.

C Can I touch it?

A Sorry.

B How do I know you're not --

D Please.

(C touches D's tattoo. D moans.)

A I've never done this before.

C I've never done this before.

B No. Neither have I.

D Never done it with a pagan?

A You like music?

C No.

B There's this diner up the road, old 50's sort of place.

D You don't know what you're missing.

A Really?

C I'd like to find out.

B They have great burgers, deliciously creamy shakes . . .

A Mmm.

D You know what I am?

B And the best jukebox in town.

C The best in town?

A Nice.

D Now who told you that?

B You wanna go?

A Now?

C Now, I'm not one to kiss and tell. . . .

B Yeah.

D Yeah? Where did you sleep last night?

C Tit for tat?

A Sure.

D No. Who did you sleep with?

C (pause) No one.

A I am a little cold.

C I'm really lonely.

B and D (together)  Like the last living polar bear.

                                C
What?                             Yeah, I guess.

B Nothing. I was just thinking of . . . I don't know.

D You wanna go?

B You wanna go?

C Go where?

B To the diner?

D Don't you trust me?

A Yes.

C No, but . . .

A and C (together)  Let's go.

(B takes A's hand, and D takes C's, and they walk off as the lights fade.)

I found it interesting but I was waiting for it to build to some revelation of meaning.

Thanks for your comment.  I'll play around with it, see what happens.
