This last April I wrote my first script for 'Script Frenzy'. Since I was in production for Blithe Spirit what was written was a sequel to it. My mentor who is helping me with the rewrite thinks that their maybe copyright issues and so won't be able to publish it. While this has been a huge learning experience in scripting after all this work would love to see it done.
The premise is that the action takes place 76 years later and deals with the grandchild of Charles Condomine who meets up with his ghostly grandmothers, as well as the grandchild of Madam Arcati. References are made to the original script, and the only characters that cross over are the ghosts of Ruth and Elivira.
Would that be an infringement of copyright or am I ok to go ahead and see how far this goes?
No matter what this has been a fun experience, and the next scripts will be the better for it.
That sounds like a fun play. Have you seen Clybourne Park, which is a similar sort of thing, but based on Raisin in the Sun?
Your play wouldn't infringe copyright, per se, if you're not using any of the original text. It might infringe on other intellectual property rights. You should check with an IP attorney.
