I utterly despise modern colleges, and have even called for my alma mater, UW-Eau Claire to be closed thanks to it's miserable graduation rate. But you'd think of all colleges, Brandeis would know better than to censor a play about Lenny Bruce, whose papers are kept there. There's been a lot written about this incident, but I've chosen this link as having the most concise summary of what happened.
This is why I'm an independent producer. No board of directors, no public funding. When the women, minorities, identitarians and other illiterati come around telling me my productions "offend" them, I can tell them to shove it.
KENACT, I saw the original LENNY on B'way. It was brilliant in every way, as Theatre should be. O'Horgan's direction went a long way from the brilliance of the play to the star that intensifies it. It is against copyright law to "edit." Unless, they have the permission of the estate. My heart is in you. And the film tried but could not match the chilling and thrilling of being there. Best, edd
It's kind of confusing for me to know which website has current, correct information, as I found one that said the university decided to postpone it for the spring, not cancel it.
Sounds like the university has changed it's story. I'm going to have to follow this, they might yet change it again. OR demand changes in the text, or something similar.
