Presented by Theatre on the Lake of Deep Creek Lake, MD
June 28th & 29th, 2019
What: A two day reading series on June 28th and 29th of 2019, that will showcase the talents of playwrights from West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. Selected playwrights will have the chance to hear their plays read by a company of professional actors and receive feedback from our knowledgeable audience. All readings will take place at the Old Red Barn in beautiful Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. Winning playwrights will also receive $150.00 to offset travel and lodging costs (no stipend given for winning playwrights who do not attend.)
Who is eligible: Playwrights who currently live full-time in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
What to send: E-mail a blind (name-removed) copy of an unproduced and unpublished full-length play to email@example.com. In that e-mail, please include your contact information for state verification. Also, we define “produced” as any production where the actors, directors, or playwright were compensated. Resubmissions from the previous year are acceptable, provided rewrites have been completed. Musicals, ten minute plays, and one act plays will not be accepted.
Process: After all samples have been received, plays will be divided by state and sent to readers. Those readers will then pick their top two to be semi-finalists. All semi-finalist plays will then be read and one winning playwright from each state will be chosen. Notifications for semi-finalist selection will be completed by February 1st. Final selection notifications will be sent by April 1st. All playwrights will be notified regardless of selection.
Other Important Information: There is no fee to submit and the contest will remain open until December 1st or until fifty plays have been received. We will do our best to respond to each submission when sent, but as we are a small company, it may take us a day or two.
A Little About Us: We’ve been performing in and around Deep Creek Lake, Maryland, every summer for the past thirteen years, making us one of the longest running professional theatre companies in Western Maryland. We have a wonderful and loyal base of audience members. Some of our audience were born and raised in the local area, but some are also seasonal residents from places like D.C., Baltimore, and Pittsburgh, which makes for a well-rounded crowd. Mostly, though, we’re just a bunch of people who gather together every summer to act, tell stories, and be on stage – and we’d like the opportunity to involve you.
And no, we’re not any relation to that other Theatre on the Lake in Chicago. But we’re sure they’re good people, too!
